PROVIDENCE – Gov. Daniel J. McKee’s favorability is continuing to decline, according to Morning Consult’s latest polling of all 50 U.S. governors.
The national data research organization’s new poll released April 10 shows McKee having a 43% approval rating during the first quarter of 2025. It was a slight drop from the 44% approval rating McKee has in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Additionally, McKee’s disapproval rating at 41% is the fourth worst among U.S. governors, according to Morning Consult’s latest numbers, and second worst in New England. He’s in a similar position now
as he was in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Maine’s Janet Mills, a Democrat who has publicly sparred with President Donald Trump over transgender athletes competing in female sports, has a 44% disapproval rating. Iowa Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds has the worst approval rating in the U.S. at 49%.
But year over year, McKee’s approval rating has dropped by 6 percentage points, Morning Consult says. The last time McKee’s approval rating was higher than 50% was in the second quarter of 2023, Morning Consult says, where he gained a 52% approval rating.
Also, McKee’s highest rating was in the third quarter of 2021 – 60% – around when he became interim governor after Gina M. Raimondo left Rhode Island to be the U.S. commerce secretary.
Vermont Republican Gov. Phil Scott has the highest approval rating in the U.S. at 75%, with just 18% disapproving his work, per Morning Consult.
