Pro-Change joins True Health Initiative to mitigate disease through behavior

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Internationally recognized behavioral influence company Pro-Change Behavior Systems Inc., has joined the True Health Initiative, combining their respective efforts on preventing and managing chronic disease via lifestyle medicine.

Membership in the True Health Initiative aligns with Pro-Change’s mission to create evidence-based behavior change solutions that optimize population health and well-being.

“I think we approach it in very similar methods,” said Kerry Evers, co-president and CEO at ProChange.

Other members of the True Health Initiative include the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and American College of Preventive Medicine. The organization works toward a world with less chronic disease and supports individuals and communities in directing their resources toward that goal.

“In every aspect of our work, Pro-Change shares and wholeheartedly supports the core beliefs and principles of the True Health Initiative. As an organizational member of True Health, Pro-Change has the opportunity to help shape their agenda, as well as to be involved in True Health campaign activities, initiatives, and committees,” the company said in a statement about their membership in the Initiative.

ProChange has been providing software-based programs to companies and organizations interested in helping their members and employees effect positive lifestyle changes to improve their health for two decades. The company will celebrate its 20th anniversary later this year, Evers said.

Their programs are designed around evidence-based behavioral change strategies focused on elements of population health including juvenile justice, dating violence and varied healthy lifestyle programs.

ProChange products include The Pro-Change HRI, a health risk assessment and intervention, for instance, which assess readiness to change health risks and offers feedback about the single most important strategy individuals can use to make progress on that behavior. The system also provides text messaging individuals can set to remind and encourage them at specific times of day.

“They’re very proactive within the organizations we work with, Evers said. Some of those organizations include the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health, Evers said.

Pro-Change and the True Health Initiative are part of a burgeoning group of national and international experts devoted to preventing and managing chronic disease with lifestyle medicine. Lifestyle medicine seeks to promote the six core principles of healthy living: healthy eating, physical activity, healthy sleep habits; being tobacco-free; managing stress; and social support.

Evers said True Health has been around for a few years and some of the founders are well known among their staff.

Since ProChange just joined True Health, Evers said, immediate partnerships have yet to be arranged. But there is a lot of potential for the two to aid each others’ work, she said.

“It’s a wonderful group to be a part of,” Evers said.
