PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island honored its class of 2017 Project SEARCH interns at a June 12 graduation ceremony with friends, family and BCBSRI colleagues. Seven 18- to 21- year-old postsecondary Cranston students with disabilities gained experience in different job areas during their one-year internship. Their school-to-work transition included rotations in such areas as food service, security and facilities management.
Project SEARCH is an international program focused on providing interns meaningful work, coaching and skill sets that will make them competitive in the job market by the end of the school year. As Rhode Island’s second site, after The Miriam Hospital, to participate in Project SEARCH, BCBSRI partnered with Cranston schools, the Rhode Island Office of Rehabilitation Services and the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals.
