LONDON – Providence Equity Partners has fallen out of the Top 10 largest private equity firms in the world, according to Private Equity International magazine.
The magazine, which ranks the Top 50 equity firms by the amount of capital they have raised for direct private investment over the past five years, rated Providence Equity Partners 16th this year. In 2007 – the first year of the PEI 50 – the firm ranked ninth on the list.
The Providence-based firm has raised $16.36 billion since Jan. 1, 2003. That amount was unchanged from the firm’s total in last year’s list, which looked at how much money each firm raised between 2002 and 2007.
The Carlyle Group, in Washington, D.C., retained the No. 1 spot it also held last year, raising $52 billion since 2003.
The magazine said the 50 largest equity firms have raised a total of $810 billion in direct investment capital between January 2003 and January 2008, up from $551 billion between January 2002 and January 2007.
