“The tour last year was amazing, and we never expected over 500 people to tour our buildings,” said Kathy Oberacker, property manager at Westminster Lofts. “Everyone was impressed by the downtown communities and the great changes that have happened over the years.”

Arts group AS220 will offer tours of its Mercantile Block building on Washington Street between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. The group is converting the structure into artist lofts and studios as well as retail and other commercial space.

Organizers said visitors may start the open house tours in any order, and are invited to see as many buildings as they wish. Each site will have a registration table where visitors will receive buttons to wear while on tour and information about the neighborhood.

Visitors may walk from one location to another or take a free shuttle service provided by Conway Tours from noon to 5 p.m.

Free parking is available at Regency Plaza, The Promenade, and Civic Center Parking, with proof of registration. A special event rate of $2 will be offered at the Grants Block lot at Weybosset and Union streets.

Although not required, organizers ask those interested in touring the residences to register in advance at www.providencedowntown.com.
