Stephen P. Massed has been named chief financial officer at PURVIS Systems Inc. His responsibilities will include all financial strategies for nationwide company expansion. Massed joins PURVIS after having worked with the company directly for more than 10 years in his role with Sansiveri, Kimball & McNamee LLP, a Rhode Island-based public-accounting and business-consulting firm.

PBN: What are you looking forward to in your new position at PURVIS Systems?
MASSED: I have seen the company maintain continuous growth and have worked with them to help develop strong financial plans, which will direct the company over the coming years. I look forward to being part of a management team that will guide the company into the future.

PBN: Due to changing world events, safety is an increasingly important issue for industries and private citizens. Does the public create a demand for safety or do companies create a demand for safety?
MASSED: I think it is a combination of the two. Some of the more recent high-profile tragic events that have occurred in our country and around the world have caused individuals as well as businesses to be more cognizant about safety.
I believe citizens have a more watchful eye than ever before and they expect the organizations they work for and / or interact with – whether it’s a large company or a university – to take any and all necessary steps to ensure their well-being. At the same time, organizations recognize that they have a responsibility to maintain a safe environment and to have the proper tools and procedures in place for effectively responding to an emergency situation, should one occur.

PBN: Because people are paying more attention to issues of information technology management and safety, new markets are opening up. What kinds of companies would not traditionally focus on their safety management, but should?
MASSED: Threats to the IT infrastructure of a business can have devastating effects on the organization, as well as the employees, customers and other stakeholders that it serves. Any organization with an IT infrastructure … should be concerned with the safety and security of its systems. •
