PROVIDENCE – Local businessman and philanthropist David M. Hirsch, president and CEO of Pawtucket-based Vertex Distribution Inc., has been elected chairman of The Rhode Island Foundation.

Hirsch, who took office Jan. 1, also is a member of the Citizens Bank Rhode Island and Connecticut boards of directors. He was elected by the foundation board of directors to succeed longtime chairman George Graboys.
In a related move, Lorne Adrian, vice president of the Milwaukee-based Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., was elected to a five-year term on The Rhode Island Foundation’s board.
The foundation, established in 1916, is one of the nation’s largest and oldest charitable organizations serving a specific geographic community. Last year, the foundation recorded a record $40 million in contributions – thanks to donors whom President and CEO Neil D. Steinberg described as “wonderfully generous” – and made a record $27 million in grants to more than 1,000 local organizations. (READ MORE)
