Rhode Island Housing Launches Free Mobile App
HomeCompare helps Rhode Islanders organize their home search; make smart purchasing decisions
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 4, 2013) – This morning, Rhode Island Housing announced the official release of HomeCompare, an app available for iPhone. The app works as a homebuyer’s digital notebook, providing a central location where all home search information can live. HomeCompare is currently available for download free of charge from the App Store.
The announcement was made on the first day of the 2013 Rhode Island Builder’s Association (RIBA) Home Show, held at the Rhode Island Convention Center through Sunday. As an exhibitor at the event, Rhode Island Housing will be providing information on their many loan options and highlighting the features of HomeCompare to the Home Show’s attendees throughout the weekend.
Rhode Island Housing strives to ensure that all people who live or work in Rhode Island can afford a healthy, attractive home that meets their needs. HomeCompare was created to be another tool to help potential Rhode Island homeowners achieve this goal.
“Homebuyers are increasingly using social media to assist in all their decisions,” said Richard Godfrey, executive director of Rhode Island Housing. “HomeCompare streamlines that process and helps homebuyers make safe, informed purchasing decisions, and have more fun doing so.”
The HomeCompare app allows users to create an individual home buying journal where they can:
• Capture information about the homes they visit
• Calculate the total first year cost for each house
• Rate each of their saved houses
• Share property information with their social network via Facebook and email
With its ability to calculate the total first year cost of each property, HomeCompare, unlike other apps in the home search market, provides an accurate representation of a home’s true cost at the end of one year.
“Buying smart is one of the fundamental objectives we stress to potential Rhode Island homebuyers,” said Godfrey. “A critical element of helping homebuyers find their dream home is ensuring that not only are they able to buy – but also afford and keep – the home that is right for them.”
The app, only available for use in Rhode Island and surrounding border communities, offers users an organized method of collecting the most important information about their potential new home, enabling them to compare multiple properties.
In addition to being an organizational tool, HomeCompare allows homebuyers to go social with the search process. Property photos and details can be uploaded directly to Facebook or emailed to friends and family through the phone’s email application.
The HomeCompare app is currently available free of charge from the App Store. HomeCompare is a location-restricted app, which only works in Rhode Island and nearby surrounding communities.
