Rhode Island tax season starts Feb. 12

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Division of Taxation will begin accepting taxpayers’ personal income filings on Feb. 12, mirroring the start to the federal tax-filing season, according to a news release.

The division will accept and process electronically processed and paper returns on that day, although eligible low-income taxpayers can submit paper versions of the state property tax relief claim forms immediately.

Business returns, including forms for partnerships, S-corporations and business corporation taxes, can be filed at any time.

Taxpayers have until April 15 to file, which means all returns and payments must be e-filed or postmarked on or before that date. Returns for partnerships, S-corporations and limited liability companies are due March 15.

The division anticipates receiving more than 650,000 personal income tax returns for the 2020 tax year. For more information, visit tax.ri.gov.
