PROVIDENCE – Construction employment in Rhode Island dropped 3 percent in June compared with the same month last year, the Associated General Contractors of America said last week.
The trade association said the industry employed 15,300 people in June, down from 15,800 as seen in June 2010. The association said that 14 states experienced sharper drops in employment.
Across the nation, 27 states lost jobs in the construction sector. Twenty-two states and Washington, D.C., saw gains. Employment in Nevada remained unchanged.
Locally, June employment in the Ocean State did jump by 700 jobs compared with May. Rhode Island was one of 25 states to gain employment from May to June. Another three states saw employment remain level while 28 states and Washington, D.C., saw employment fall.
