WARWICK – The R.I. Airport Corp will update the master plan for T.F. Green Airport, RIAC announced Wednesday.

The corporation said that it had no plans to lengthen or realign the airport’s runways.

The plan update is required by the Federal Aviation Administration and will seek to accommodate forecast demand over the next 20 years. The plan was last updated in 2002. The FAA ties federal funding to the availability of master plans for airports.

The plan update is expected to cost roughly $1.3 million. RIAC said that it will establish a technical advisory committee comprised of local state and federal officials and agencies, airlines, local businesses and will include “robust and inclusive” public outreach.

RIAC said that the plan will try to balance anticipated growth at the airport and cost-effectiveness.

“Ultimately, passenger growth at T. F. Green will decide if there are any development projects at the airport. We will look at both air- and land-side needs,” stated Iftikhar Ahmad, RIAC president and CEO. “While putting this plan together, we will focus on opportunities such as terminal capacity, parking, taxiways and aprons.”

The corporation said it will create a dedicated webpage, scheduled to go live on April 5, to provide updates on the master plan and the community outreach related to the plan.

RIAC also recently announced the creation of a strategic master plan for the state’s five general aviation airports.
