PROVIDENCE –  The R.I. Department of Transportation will begin tractor trailer truck tolling June 11 at two locations along Interstate 95, RIDOT announced Tuesday.

One of the toll locations that will go live approximately 1 mile north of Exit 2 for the Wood River Valley Bridge on the Richmond/Hopkinton line will charge $3.25. The second toll location is approximately 3 miles south of Exit 5 near the Exeter/Richmond line and will charge $3.50. The tolls will operate on both northbound and southbound directions of the highway.

Tolls will be collected one time per day, per direction at each toll location for trucks equipped with E-ZPass transponders. Video detection systems will help create an invoice for the truck’s registered owner for trucks without transponders.

Each toll location will function independently, according to RIDOT, and will be associated with reconstruction to replacement of specific bridges in accordance with RhodeWorks.

RIDOT said that the remaining tolling locations will come on line over the next 18 months. The department has 14 tolling locations planned in total.
