Entries are judged on their distinction in creative work according to standards set by past Communicator Awards, with consideration to each category. The Award of Distinction recognizes communications professionals for the creativity and quality of their projects.
RI.gov, the Ocean State’s official website and R.I. Interactive’s winning project, uses a tag-based navigation scheme to link to more than 1,200 state and local government sites, including an “open checkbook,” which displays expenditure and budget data for 20 state agencies and offices. The website also uses social media such as Twitter, YouTube and Flickr to make it even more interactive for citizens.
Rhode Island Interactive is a unit of e-Government firm NIC USA. It recently launched an RI.gov iPhone application to provide mobile access to the website.
