PROVIDENCE – Members of the Rhode Island Hospital United Nurses and Allied Professionals voted 323 to 224 to ratify a four-year contract that would make Rhode Island Hospital nurses, technologists, therapists and other allied health professionals the highest paid in Rhode Island.
The agreement was reached July 2 after 10 sessions that began on May 22.
The new contract will provide employees with a 5-percent increase retroactive to July 1, followed by annual raises of 3.5, 4 and 4 percent, in addition to anniversary steps and longevity increases. The raises will increase total salary 16.5 to 33 percent over the term of the contract.
The new contract will also provide the following:
• Increases in shift differentials and on-call pay
• Continuation of a labor-management liaison program to handle employee issues
• Termination of a long-standing “interest arbitration” agreement
• Protection of all current health and dental benefits
• Continuation of double-time and all other overtime premiums
• Continuation of sick leave buy-back options
“Our new contract is an important step forward in our efforts to be recognized for the work that we do,” said the union president Linda McDonald.
