RIHCA hosts candidates’ forum Oct. 14

WARWICK – The Rhode Island Health Center Association is hosting a forum Thursday, Oct. 14, from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Providence Warwick, to explore gubernatorial and congressional candidates’ views on health care and community health centers.
The forum, to be moderated by WJAR-TV NBC 10 political reporter Bill Rappleye, will focus primarily on the candidates’ views on health care reform implementation, Medicaid and primary care. It is part of RIHCA’s annual meeting.
At a luncheon immediately after the forum, Christie Hager, regional director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and David Cutler, an economist at Harvard University, will also speak about reform implementation and its implications.
In addition, RIHCA will honor three “innovators and leaders in health care”: U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., for his “consistent leadership” in health care reform; the Rhode Island Foundation for its efforts to increase access to primary care; and Dr. Steven Roth for clinical leadership.
RIHCA represents Rhode Island’s 10 community health centers, which care for more than 120,000 patients per year. To learn more about the organization or Thursday’s event, go to www.rihca.org.
