Riverside Square subject of redesign plans

EAST PROVIDENCE – The city of East Providence has received $100,000 for improvements to Riverside Square. The funds will be used to create a new landscaping plan for the square with interactive signs intended to draw more visitors from the East Bay Bike Path.

The funds will support a “smart design” to include landscaping, public art, and a community board with a QR-code reader where people can see a map of local businesses and nonprofits.

Riverside Square is bisected by the East Bay Bike Path, which has 800,000 people trips a year on bike, foot or skateboard.

The city’s Community Development Office issued a request for proposal for a landscape architect this year. Kevin M. Alverson Landscape Architecture was selected.  A plan will be presented to the public for input.
