BRISTOL – Provost Andrew A. Workman was named interim president of Roger Williams University in a Tuesday statement by the school’s board of trustees.
The appointment comes less than a week after the death of former RWU President Donald J. Farish July 5.

In a July 5 statement, the school has previously named Board of Trustees Chairman Richard L. Bready as president until an interim could be identified.
During the Monday evening meeting in which Workman was appointed interim president, the board also selected Jerome Williams to serve as interim chief operating officer and executive vice president for finance. Previously, Williams was the executive vice president for finance and administration.
A letter penned by Bready and the board to the greater RWU community accompanied Tuesday’s release. In it, he said, “While the loss of President Farish’s leadership is significant, the board has confidence in the senior leadership team’s ability to continue RWU’s forward progress.”
Per the Tuesday announcement, the school’s search for the next president will continue as planned when Farish announced his retirement for the end of the 2018-2019 academic year.
The board has hired Isaacson, Miller to conduct the executive search.
