BRISTOL – Roger Williams University has partnered with the Housing Network of Rhode Island to develop a new program that will provide education and training related to community development.
In the fall, the program Partnership for Community Development will offer its first two community-development courses at RWU’s Providence campus.
“This collaboration underscores the university’s commitment to supporting the academic needs of the greater community,” said RWU President Roy J. Nirschel. “And it’s one that capitalizes on resources we can offer through academic strengths such as public administration, business, architecture and others.”
The courses in this program – to be offered through the University’s Institute for Public Policy and the School of Continuing Studies – are aimed at those already working in the field of community development.
It also offers undergraduate students the opportunity to take classes geared toward a career devoted to improving communities.
The Housing Network of Rhode Island is an association of 22 nonprofit housing developers in Rhode Island. The Rhode Island Foundation is helping to finance the partnership.
Both courses, Elements and Issues in Community Development and Introduction to Real Estate Development for Public Purpose, are three-credit courses and will be held in the evenings at the university’s Providence campus, 150 Washington St. Registration is available through Sept. 12. •
