PROVIDENCE – The Social Enterprise Greenhouse on Thursday announced it has selected 12 Rhode Island startups to join its three-month health and wellness accelerator program.
The program, focused on health-related enterprises, launched last year and is designed to help fledgling entrepreneurs work to refine, formalize and grow their startups. The 12-week program starts on Sept. 11 and will end with a pitch competition on Dec. 7.
The startup with the “highest potential” will be offered $5,000 in cash awards, according to SEG.
This year’s health and wellness cohort includes:
- Datain: A Korean business joining through a partnership with New England Medical Innovation Center. The startup focuses on data processing and analytics to providence and better inform internet-of-things health care systems
- Elderly Parent Resources: An information enterprise that provides resources to those who provide care for the elderly. The startup’s mission is to “provide the most respected and best resources and support for caregivers and elders
- Food on the Move: A mobile seller of fruits and vegetables aims to make produce more easily accessible and cheaper by doubling the value of SNAP dollars throughout the year
- Hands in Harmony LLC: The startup offers neurologic music therapy services to people throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The company, headed by a licensed music therapist, aims to serve groups and individuals of all ages
- Kinetic Diabetic: A network enterprise that leverages the care of friends and families to encourage individuals with Type 2 diabetes to manage their treatment
- Momunity: The web-based startup is designed to educate new and expecting mothers, and to help connect them with community-based support services and care
- NaloxBox: A community-based organization that gives bystanders the tools to help save opioid overdose victims. The startup aims to strategically place special cabinets containing naloxone and rescue masks in various locations
- The Tapping Solution Foundation: A startup focused on promoting the healing effects of Emotional Freedom Technique, or “tapping,” a form of psychological acupressure that aims to provide relief to physical, emotional and performance-related issues
- Technology Against Assault: A startup that encourages survivors of sexual assault to seek medical care using a newly developed forensic medical exam
- Therapy Missions Inc.: The company aims to bring professional therapists to the developing world where the services are scares or nonexistent
- WatchRX: A startup that aims to improve the quality of life for seniors by giving them the tools to live independently. The company is also trying to help caregivers reduce stress
- YANA (You Are Not Alone): A social enterprise that is trying to eliminate loneliness
The SEG health and wellness program is one of three accelerator programs offered by the Providence-based nonprofit. The program is funded by a R.I. Department of Labor and Training grant, and receives support from Delta Dental of Rhode Island.
Program graduates are eligible to receive later-stage business services and the SEG Loan Fund, which provides low interest-rate loans to social enterprises.
