St. Luke’s lab among CAP Best Performers

NEW BEDFORD – The College of American Pathologists has ranked the laboratory at St. Luke’s Hospital among its 2006 Best Performers.
CAP laboratory accreditation has been adopted as a model for federal, state and private accreditation programs around the world. Participating clinical laboratories are reviewed on a quarterly basis and results are compared to national and international benchmarks, the hospital said.
“With today’s focus on improving clinical outcomes, laboratory results play an ever-increasing role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients,” said Paula Baptista, laboratory technical manager for the Southcoast Hospitals Group, a division of Southcoast Health System.
St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford is a nonprofit health care institution and a member of the Southcoast Health System, which also includes Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River and Tobey Hospital in Wareham, Mass.
