At a time when substantive coverage of local news is critical but waning, an announcement like this layoff notice only further diminishes a newspaper’s ability to research and report an in-depth perspective on local events of interest and importance to the community. My condolences to those who were cut, as well as to those left behind who will have to pick up the pieces.
