The business opened in May at 1006 Charles St. Owner Stephanie Simas said she modeled it after the concept of an Internet café, which draws customers for coffee and Internet access.

At Whipstitch, patrons can choose among five sewing machines. The café also has an ironing board, a cutting table and other staples of sewing, such as pin cushions, thread and scissors.
