Survey: Massachusetts pays most for health care

INDIANAPOLIS – A new survey claims that Massachusetts employers and employees are paying the most for health care plans.
According to the survey released last week by United Benefit Advisors, Massachusetts’ health care model – which requires nearly every resident to buy health insurance – has not cut down on expenses for employers. The survey found that Massachusetts employers are continuing to spend more per year than other states for health insurance on a per-employee basis.
Also, UBA said in a news release, “the plan is certain to garner more attention this spring as penalties for companies and employees who have not yet signed up go into effect in April.”
The plan is being scrutinized as a potential model upon which to build a universal health care plan in the U.S. It appeals to many residents because of its comprehensiveness and relatively low cost, according to UBA, and to employers struggling to pay the high health care-plan costs.
