PROVIDENCE – A new carrier will be operating at T.F. Green Airport starting in April, the R.I. Airport Corp. announced Tuesday.
MN Airlines LLC, operating as Sun Country Airlines, is a discount airline company based in Minnesota. The company will begin offering seasonal roundtrip flights to Nashville International Airport in Nashville, Tenn., four times per week, and seasonal roundtrip flights to Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minn., four times per week.
Both routes currently have flights for sale from early April through just after mid-August. Ticket prices on the company’s website varied from just under $69 one way to $281 one way, depending on the day booked. Some of the Minneapolis to Providence flights offered stop at Los Angeles International Airport and Nashville. Direct flights on the site were cheaper than the multiple-stop flights.
RIAC noted that some of the fares currently offered are promotional rates.
“On behalf of the board, we are pleased to welcome Sun Country to T.F. Green Airport. We hope this is the beginning of a long-term relationship and we would encourage Rhode Islanders to take advantage of the introductory fares,” stated Jonathan Savage, chair of RIAC’s board of directors.
The Nashville flight will operate on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The Minneapolis flights will operate on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“This is a great day for the airport and for Rhode Island travelers. Sun Country is an airline on the move, and we appreciate that they have added T.F. Green to their growing list of destinations,” said Iftikhar Ahmad, president and CEO of RIAC in a statement. “Every time we add an airline or a route we are strengthening Rhode Island’s economy and providing a wider array of travel destinations for the business community.”
