My parents came to this country in search of better opportunities. To them, landing a corporate job that paid well, with benefits, and career progression opportunities meant you hit the jackpot – and you did nothing to compromise it.
In July 2020, as the pandemic started to peak, my spouse and I opened Notes Coffee Co. I decided I could no longer compromise my dream, my happiness and what truly made me whole.
Don’t wait to start your business. We often think we may not know enough about a particular product or business, but don’t let it stop you from starting.
You will never know it all. Enjoy the process of trial and error.
Connect with people. I recommend getting to know people within your industries and business community.
There are many resources and programs that support small businesses in Rhode Island, and in your cities and towns. Look for them, ask for help, get involved. Build a team, and always take care of them; remember, they are the core of your business.
Marketing and branding are extremely important. Create a marketing plan that educates customers about your business brand and products. Create a content plan that engages your audience and builds your brand reputation, one that is centered around your mission and core values and product. Do it consistently and learn as you go.
Taking a chance on yourself may be the hardest thing to do, especially when you’re comfortable. Do it anyway, start in whatever capacity that makes sense for you.
You won’t ever regret taking a chance on yourself.
