Tax cuts are the elixir to help R.I. economy nurse self to health

To the editor:
So 74.3 percent of Rhode Islanders polled by Brown University think the stimulus plan will work (“Poll: R.I. voters expect stimulus plan will work, but worry about how quickly,” Feb. 17, PBN.com)?
That opinion is the triumph of ignorance over mountains of evidence to the contrary. The vast majority of economists who are not in the administration say that the “stimulus” legislation not only won’t work, it will prolong and worsen the recession. And it will leave us with trillions in debt that many say we will not be able to pay off.
The record is clear. Government spending has never pulled us out of a recession. Tax cuts have helped. Why don’t we learn from history?
[President Barack] Obama’s spending isn’t about stimulating the economy. It is about creating the perception that he is helping the masses in return for guaranteed Democratic votes.
