BARRINGTON – A plan to bring the first TD Bank branch to Rhode Island cleared the Barrington Planning Board earlier this month, according to East Bay Newspapers’ Web site.
The paper said the board gave approval for the bank to build a branch on County Road, a street already home to five banks. The Zoning Board still must approve the project.
The branch would sit on a 40,000-square-foot lot once home to a car dealership. A Bank of America is next door and a Webster Bank is across the street. Other banks located within a mile are BankNewport, Sovereign Bank and Citizens Bank.
Plans for the TD branch include a drive-through, 30 parking spaces and landscaping.
“This is the first TD Bank branch in the state and will be the model for other branches. With the economy as it is, we are fortunate they want to come and build here,” town Planner Philip Hervey was quoted as telling the paper.
TD Bank operates in 12 states and the District of Columbia. In addition to banking products, the bank and its subsidiaries provide wealth management services through TD Wealth Management, and insurance products and services through TD Insurance, Inc., one of the largest insurance agencies in the Northeast.
