These pictures speak volumes

Since 2012 we have asked our 40 Under Forty honorees to bring a prop with them when we take their portrait for this special section.

We have had everything from an oyster-growing cage, to a drone to a surfboard show up at our office/photo studio for the pictures, not to mention a bunch of young children and furry friends. It’s all good and, as is our intention, revealing.

For some of this year’s honorees, the props were symbols of multigenerational familial connections. One honoree brought dominoes, a game that her family has played through the years, while another brought her 2-year-old daughter to create a record that “mommy did something she can be proud of.”

One winner brought his two daughters as a way to encourage them to seek opportunities in a STEM field (his line of work), which still has too few women in it, while another brought the first product his family’s company made – a skateboard – a far cry from the merchandising displays it makes for the likes of Tiffany and Vendi.

And one honoree brought his mother’s undergraduate diploma, which she earned one year after her son earned his. That picture may not be worth 1,000 words, but it is one for the ages.

So as you look at this special section, take the time to look at the photos and find the passion contained in the props that our winners brought with them. They speak to their humanity and their richness as human beings, something that is always worth celebrating.

Our partner sponsor for this year’s edition of the 40 Under Forty is Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP. And like with every one of PBN’s recognition programs, sponsorship plays a key role in helping us make this program work.
