DARTMOUTH – A memorandum of understanding between Bristol Community College and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth was signed Dec. 10 establishing The Plus Program: Bristol + UMassD to help BCC students transfer to the Dartmouth school.

“The [program] provides a bridge between institutions that is collaborative and combines the specialized resources of both institutions, creating a rich college experience while also streamlining the transition to a bachelor’s degree,” said Bristol Community College President Laura L. Douglas in a statement. “Students in our region deserve to have seamless access to a high-quality and affordable education.”

Designed to offer more access to associate and bachelor’s degrees, beginning with students enrolling in September 2019, UMass Dartmouth will award merit scholarships, of at least $2,500 a year, to Bristol students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher who enroll as full-time day students at the Dartmouth school.

BCC students who apply to UMass Dartmouth in the program are guaranteed admission with no application costs, as well as career-development services from the school’s workshops, priority course registration for their first semester, and access to the library, fitness center, bookstore and dining halls at both campuses.

“This innovative collaboration advances our goal to increase educational attainment across the region,” said UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Robert E. Johnson in prepared remarks. “Together, Bristol Community College and UMass Dartmouth are equipping students with the adaptable skill set and agile mindset required to succeed in a rapidly evolving economy.”

BCC students who completed an associate degree will enter UMass Dartmouth as juniors. Those who meet the requirements of the Commonwealth Commitment program – an agreement between the state’s 15 community colleges and four-year institutions to offer tuition and fee discounts – will attend UMass Dartmouth at frozen tuition and fee rates for the duration of their two-year enrollment and will receive a 10 percent rebate on tuition and fees each semester, as well as the MassTransfer tuition credit.
