PROVIDENCE – The University of Rhode Island in South Kingstown and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in Dartmouth announced in late February that the two respective colleges are planning to have most or all students return to campus and hold in-person classes this fall.

In a letter to the UMass Dartmouth students Feb. 25, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Shannon M. Finning said that the university intends to welcome all students back to campus, including to its residence halls. The university is also planning for activities, programs and events that “create a vibrant student life experience while remaining vigilant in our alignment with public health guidance and safety practices,” Finning said.

URI issued a statement Feb. 26 noting the university is planning for course offerings to be “predominantly in person,” along with online and blended courses, which were available before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both URI and UMass Dartmouth will offer more details on their respective plans later in the spring.
