William C. Wallace II, of Wakefield, has been honored by the Visiting Nurse Associations of America as its 2007 Volunteer of the Year.
He was chosen for his work with the Narragansett-based VNS Home Health Services, where he is a member of the board of trustees; he is to be recognized at a ceremony in California this April.
The VNAA award is given each year to a visiting-nurse agency board member who demonstrates significant participation in agency programs, a leadership role that extends beyond the local level, and mentoring and motivation of others.
Wallace has been active with VNS Home Health Services for more than four decades, serving as a trustee since 1967 and as treasurer of the VNS’ finance committee since 2003. He is crediting with helping to merge six agencies into one; overseeing the obtaining of a state Certificate of Need for the VNS facility’s construction; and establishing the agency’s affiliation with South County Hospital.
“Bill Wallace has been a champion of home health care in South County for over 40 years,” agency President and CEO Mary Lou Rhodes said in the Friday announcement, adding: “He has demonstrated an unwavering and devout sense of loyalty and compassion for the compassion … and I can think of no one more deserving of this accolade.”
