WARWICK – Target at the Warwick Mall is on track to re-open this Sunday after floods in late March forced the closure of the mall. The food court, concourse and some inside stores are targeted to open by Aug. 20, the mall owner said Friday.

The renovated Target has been remodeled to offer expanded food options featuring produce, fresh meat and bakery goods, the Minneapolis-based retail giant said. The remodeled store will have an open-market layout, allowing customers to select the quantities of food items such as produce. The Warwick Mall Target store is one of two in Warwick.

“Target is thrilled to re-open the Warwick North store for our guests,” said Mike Hille, Target real estate manager. “Target has been part of the community for more than 10 years, and we’re proud to quickly re-open our second store, provide food and supplies and help Warwick recover from this disaster.”

Elsewhere in the mall, co-owner Aram Garabedian told Providence Business News Friday that workers were laying tile in the food court and main concourse. He said when the areas open in late August, he expects many of the interior stores to open as well.

J.C. Penney is expected to re-open by Oct. 1 and Macy’s in the spring of 2011, Garabedian said.

The Warwick Mall Showcase Cinemas, a separate building from the mall, re-opened in April. The Sports Authority, one of the mall’s anchors, re-opened in May.

The mall will celebrate its 40th anniversary in October.
