WESTPORT – Located less than a mile from the Rhode Island border, a 3,100-square-foot home on the waterfront in Westport recently sold for $2.61 million, making this the biggest residential property sale in the town in 2024 so far, as of early August, according to Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty, which represented the sellers.
The 246 River Road home, constructed in 1990 on a peninsula along the Westport River, contains three bedrooms and three full bathrooms, according to Mott & Chace, which cited records kept by the MLS Property Information Network when calling this the highest single-family home sale in Westport so far this year.

The two-story Westport home features an open floor plan on the first floor, oversized windows and glass doors, according to Mott & Chace.
The first floor also features a den with a fireplace, along with a library room, which could also serve as an office or guest space, the real estate firm said.
The property, located near the Acoaxet Club golf course, also includes a kayaking launch area on the water, according to Mott & Chace.
The woods of the property is also the home for several nesting resident ospreys, the real estate firm said.
The single-family home was most recently valued by Westport assessors in fiscal year 2024 as being worth a total of $1.05 million, according to the town’s online property tax evaluation database.
The sellers were represented by Cherry Arnold, sales associate of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty.
Meg Beers, of Compass Inc., represented the buyers.
According to the quitclaim deed, the River Road home was sold by Celeste Benson, as successor trustee of the Penney Family Realty Trust. The Westport property was purchased by John Foley and Mary Ellen Foley, of Westport.
