PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island will open its fourth mass vaccination site in South Kingstown on a portion of the property owned by Schneider Electric IT Corp., according to a lease provided by the R.I. Department of Administration.
The effective lease date is Monday, according to the document. The new location, at 132 Fairgrounds Road, will be the first for South County. It wasn’t immediately clear when the new facility would be opened for vaccination appointments.

The state already operates large-scale vaccination sites at 1400 West Main Road in Middletown, at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in downtown Providence and at 100 Sockanosset Cross Road in Cranston.
A site at 1500 Diamond Hill Road in Woonsocket also is expected to opened by the state. A lease for that location, a former Sears department store, has not been executed.
Altogether, the state anticipates paying more than $5.5 million for the use of the vaccination sites through June.
According to the documents, Rhode Island will pay $17,000 a month for the South Kingstown vaccination site, and will reimburse Schneider up to $54,050 for its work to remove its work stations to accommodate the vaccination center.
The Dunkin’ Donuts Center, which is owned by the R.I. Convention Center Authority, is being leased to the state for $4.91 million, for use by the R.I. Department of Health to assemble testing kits and as a mass-vaccination site, according to the state documents.
The lease was effective Dec. 1, 2020.
Under an amended lease with 100 Sockanosset LLC, an entity of the Carpionato Corp., the state will pay $302,105 a month – as well as $32,634 in property taxes – for the use of its facility in Cranston. That lease is scheduled to take effect April 15.
The vaccination site in Middletown, also owned by an entity of Carpionato, is being leased to the state at $15,000 a month.
All of the leases are scheduled to expire on June 30, but can be renewed with a month’s notice.
