Green Building Council offers LEED associate’s training at NEIT

WARWICK – The U.S. Green Building Council’s Rhode Island chapter will offer a new training program starting next week.
The course will prepare participants for the exam required to become a green associate under the council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. The credential is aimed at people not involved in the technical aspects of building. However, it provides the basis for obtaining higher level LEED certifications.
The series of tiered trainings starts Aug. 19 and build to an advanced workshop on Sept. 30 for individuals pursuing a LEED Accredited Professional designation. All the trainings take place at the New England Institute of Technology in Warwick.
The classes come as Rhode Island prepares to implement a new law that requires public buildings meet certain green standards. The Green Buildings Act comes into force Jan. 1 and offers a choice of standards for buildings to meet, including the LEED standard.
