PROVIDENCE – A business unit of Textron Inc. subsidiary Textron Systems has been awarded a contract worth $48.81 million to supply an additional 73 armored vehicles to the U.S. Army, the company announced Monday.
New Orleans-based Textron Marine & Land Systems will produce 52 Armored Security Vehicles and 21 Armored Knight vehicles for the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command. The Textron unit will also provide 12 special tool sets under the contract.

According to a company press release, Textron Marine & Land Systems already has delivered more than 2,700 ASVs to the U.S. Army over 58 consecutive months.
“The ASV provides the highest level of mobility and survivability to successfully carry out a wide range of combat mission roles for the U.S. Army in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Tom Walmsley, general manager of Textron Marine & Land Systems. “Our team is continually working to build the best military vehicle possible to protect [those] serving our country.”
In December 2009, Textron had announced an original contract worth $10 million to supply 27 armored vehicles to the U.S. Army. Production for the new contract option has an expected completion date of February 2012.
