Legislators Tuesday passed a bill that would create a small business advocate within the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation.
The advocate would hear concerns raised by small businesses about new regulations and then share those concerns with the appropriate officials.

Brian Patrick Kennedy, D-Hopkinton, said small businesses often don’t have the time or the employees to keep tabs on every proposed regulation that could effect their companies.
“Large businesses often have employees whose job is to track and voice their opinions on proposed changes. Small business owners don’t have that kind of luxury,” Kennedy said in a release.
The RIEDC director would appoint a staff person to serve as an advocate.
The bill will now go before the Senate for consideration.
