West Warwick-based Astro-Med, Inc., yesterday announced that Boeing has awarded the company a multi-year $2.1 million contract for accessories to the Cockpit Printer that is also being manufactured and supplied by Astro-Med, under a separate contract.
Last summer Boeing and the Air Force selected Astro-Med’s ToughWriter 3 as the hard copy Cockpit Printer for the C-17 in a contract valued at approximately $3 million.
The new contract includes the design and manufacture of a militarized Ethernet hub switch, which provides connectivity to systems such as the ToughWriter 3 in the C-17. The ToughWriter 3 printers provide hard copies of all data received by the airborne crew including air traffic controller instructions, e-mail, etc. The hard copy output is intended to help minimize communication errors between the cockpit crews and ground based air traffic controllers.
Astro-Med, Inc. is a manufacturer of color label printing systems, Life Sciences Instrumentation, and specialty data acquisition systems for cross-industrial, inter-global applications
