PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Democratic members of the Rhode Island House of Representatives unanimously endorsed their leadership team of John Harwood, Speaker of the House; Gerard M. Martineau, Majority Leader; Susanne M. Henseler, Majority Whip, and Rene R. Menard, Deputy Majority Whip.
Deputy House Speaker Edward S. Inman III of Coventry presided at the meeting. Since the speaker’s post is the only constitutional office involved, only Harwood must be confirmed by a vote of the members of the House in session. Since the Democrats constitute an overwhelming majority of the House members, and the vote of the caucus was unanimous, Harwood’s reelection as speaker is virtually guaranteed.
