WEST WARWICK — Astro-Med Inc.’s medical product subsidiary, Grass Technologies, recently sold 10 long-term monitoring systems to a hospital in Beijing.
The machines, which will be used to monitor epilepsy, were installed in the Department of Functional Neurosurgery in the Chinese capital’s Xuanwu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a teaching hospital affiliated with the Capital University of Medical Sciences in Beijing, Astro-Med said.

The department installed the Grass machines when it recently remodeled its neurology facility and with an eye toward becoming “the top epilepsy monitoring facility in China,” according to Astro-Med.
Eric Menke, Grass Technologies’ international sales manager, said the purchases by Xuanwu Hospital followed other sales the firm has made in China as Astro-Med works toward a corporate goal of getting half of annual revenue from exports.
The sale to Xuanwu Hospital was made by ZJ Prosper, a Chinese company that represents Grass Technologies inside the country.
“As the Chinese economy is booming, the demand for a higher level of health care is also increasing,” Jie Wu, ZJ Prosper’s managing director, said in a statement. “Therefore, it brings a very promising, bright future for Grass Technologies and ZJ Prosper in China for years to come.”
