PROVIDENCE – A health care industry veteran has been named as the new chairman of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island’s board of directors. John C. Langenus was elected to the role during the spring, replacing former chair Randy Wyrofsky on April 1.
Wyrofsky, who retired at the end of March, had served as chair since 2015.
Langenus’ health care experience has been “invaluable” to Blue Cross, where he has been a board member since 2013, said Blue Cross CEO and President Kim A. Keck.
He currently works as a consultant in the health insurance industry.
“John embraces BCBSRI’s vision to passionately lead a state of health and well-being for all Rhode Islanders, and with his leadership, we will continue building on our efforts to address critical issues, including health care access and affordability,” Keck said.
In the past, Langenus, of Bloomfield, Conn., has held multiple leadership roles in health care, including positions at Anthem Inc., Coventry Healthcare, Evolution Benefits and Cigna. He currently serves on the board of Emblem Health in Nashville, Tenn., and is a former United States marine.
