The Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence recently held its first annual “Kids Nite Out” at the Providence Biltmore Hotel, raising $112,000 in donations for the organization.
James Hagan, past president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, hosted the event, which was attended by more than 180 adults and 90 children between the ages of 9 and 12. The dinner, organized by five Bryant University students, celebrated the positive impact of adults and children spending time together.
Children from the Fox Point, North Providence, Olneyville, South Side and Wanskuck Clubhouses were in attendance along with representatives from corporations such as Amica Mutual Insurance Co., Bank of America, Gilbane Building Co., Sovereign Bank, Fidelity Investments, Adler Pollock & Sheehan, Bank Rhode Island, National Grid, Home Loan & Investment Bank, Global Equity Advisors and London Health Administrators among others.
Nearly $20,000 was raised from a 50-item silent auction and a 10-item live auction.
Established in 1868, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence is the oldest Boys & Girls Club in the nation and the largest in Rhode Island. The organization provides services to more than 7,000 boys and girls ranging from ages 6 to 18. •
