As an aesthetician, Pamela Auger spent years working on skin issues with burn victims, plastic-surgery patients and spa clients.
As a nurse, she gained an even deeper understanding of how to care for and nourish skin.
So, when she underwent treatment for breast cancer in 2011, she was prepared to deal with her own skin problems caused by harsh radiation.
Auger, now cancer-free, used the experience to found Myskincaregirl LLC. Based in Fall River, the company markets a sustainable skin-care tool, created by Auger, that exfoliates, cleanses and massages skin, all at the same time.
The 51-year-old Rhode Island native, who now lives in Swansea, received the patent and trademark for her OctoVie Skincare Brush last year.
Now, the brushes are sold in nearly 50 stores and spas.
“Last year it was kind of a wash, I only sold a couple of thousand over the whole year, but this year’s first quarter already surpassed that,” she said. “It just takes a long time to get it in stores and introduce people to it.”
