Carcieri names interim Labor and Training chief

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Donald L. Carcieri announced that R.I. Department of Labor and Training veteran Sandra Powell will serve as interim director for the office while a permanent replacement for Adelita S. Orefice is sought.
Powell, a lifelong Rhode Island resident, has worked 19 years at the Department of Labor and Training in workforce development programs
For the past two years, Powell has served as the assistant director for the department’s Workforce Development division. In that capacity, she has been responsible for oversight of the state’s public work force-development system, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
Orefice, who headed the department as director since 2004, was tapped this month for the position of deputy secretary of the R.I. Office of Health and Human Services. Before joining the DLT, Orefice had served as the director of the R.I. Department of Elderly Affairs from 2003 to 2004. (READ MORE.)
