Centennial Schooner to Visit Bristol!

The Herreshoff Marine Museum / America’s Cup Hall of Fame is thrilled to welcome the 138’ schooner MARIETTE back to Bristol for her 100^th birthday.  MARIETTE (HMCo. #772) was designed by Nat Herreshoff and built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in the South Shop on Bristol Harbor in 1915.  She is one of only nine steel HMCo. schooners and one of a pair still sailing today. 

Contracted by Frederick Brown for $75,000, she has had 16 owners since, several of whom have contributed to her unprecedented survival by implementing significant restorations.  Her current owner brings MARIETTE to Rhode Island to race in the Transatlantic Race from Newport to Lizard Point in the UK.  She starts with IRC Class 4 on June 28^th.

Bill Lynn, President & Executive Director of the Herreshoff Marine Museum, is looking forward to seeing MARIETTE at the museum’s dock.  “The big steel schooners were an incredibly important yet often overlooked chapter in the history of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, and MARIETTE is one of only two left.  We’re incredibly fortunate that circumstances brought her home to Bristol for her 100^th birthday, and we’re excited about sharing this event with the residents of Bristol and the guests at our Summer Gala on June 20^th.”

MARIETTE is scheduled to arrive in Bristol on Saturday, June 20^th, and she’ll stay until the 22^nd when she’ll make the return trip to Newport to finish preparations for the Transatlantic Race.
