Construction booming for Guard

The Rhode Island National Guard is in the midst of a building boom. Since 2006 the Guard has spent $270 million – all of it from the federal government – on construction projects. In November, the guard is scheduled to open an $8.9 million airborne equipment facility. And there’s more to come. A $6.3 million air-traffic-control tower, pictured above, is ongoing at Quonset Air Station in North Kingstown. The Guard also plans a $10 million to $15 million supply warehouse at Camp Fogarty in East Greenwich. Last year the Guard purchased 133 acres in Burrillville with plans to use the land as a training grounds. / PBN PHOTO/RYAN T. CONATY
