What advice would you give your 22-year-old self? “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” When I moved to this country, I pushed myself too hard. The old mentality that I need to do everything and be everything to everyone, that is not a sustainable attitude. Self-care is not selfish. If we take care of ourselves, it allows us to give our best to others.

What is your favorite Rhode Island food or drink? Iggy’s clam cakes and Del’s lemonade.

Fox or MSNBC? A little bit of both.

What does winning this award mean to you? Climbing your way up the corporate ladder is challenging, especially if you’re a woman. And even more so if you’re a woman of color with an accent. Or if you’re trying to do something differently or create long-term change. That’s why winning or being nominated for this award is so special. Because it feels incredible to have your efforts recognized by people outside of your day-to-day, by experts in their fields and by people who have no vested interest or agenda.

What is your favorite song? “Festa” by Ivete Sangalo.
