CRANSTON – In an effort to keep local, less-fortunate residents warm during the holiday season, the Garden City L.L. Bean store, with the help of the Comprehensive Community Action Program, collected more than 300 gently used coats, gloves and hats in less than a month.
“Coat drives are so important to the families we support because it allows them to prepare their family for winter without the burden of that expense,” Lee Beliveau, CCAP vice president of development corporate affairs, said in a statement. “Many of our families … are struggling just to stay in their homes as rent prices continue to soar.”

However, CCAP urged the public to remember protective, winter-weather items such as hats, gloves, scarves and coats are needed throughout the colder months and to continue to donate when they are able.
“We hope the community will continue to make donations through the winter months to support our coat drives and help families prepare for the cold days ahead,” Beliveau said.
The coats were collected by the staff at the L.L. Bean store in Garden City in Cranston.
