House of Hope names MarcAurele a ‘Housing Hero’

WARWICK – House of Hope CDC today announced that its second annual Housing Hero award will go to Joseph J. MarcAurele, chairman, president and CEO of Citizens Bank of Rhode Island.

“Joe continues to demonstrate an outstanding commitment to addressing the affordable housing crisis in our state,” said Jean Johnson, executive director of the nonprofit community development agency. “Under his leadership, Citizens Bank has become a valued partner in our efforts to make affordable housing a reality for countless Rhode Island families.”

MarcAurele, of East Greenwich, had worked at Fleet Bank as director of human resources and group head for community lending before joining Citizens as its executive vice president of commercial banking. He serves on the boards of directors of Rhode Island Hospital, the National Conference for Community and Justice, the United Way of Rhode Island and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.

“I’m honored to receive this award from … an agency that has positively impacted the lives of so many Rhode Islanders,” he said.

The award will be presented March 3 during the 15th Annual House of Hope Auction & Gala, at Alpine Country Club, 251 Pippin Orchard Road, Cranston. RI 02921. The evening, emceed by Gene Valicenti of NBC Channel 10, will include live and silent auctions, dinner and live entertainment. All proceeds will benefit House of Hope CDC. House of Hope CDC is a nonprofit community development corporation established in Warwick in 1989 to serve Rhode Islanders in need of temporary or permanent housing, employment training, and mental-health counseling and other support.
