PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island’s capital city ranks as the 21st-best city for job seekers, according to Indeed, the online job site.
Indeed, which released the list on Monday, said it ranked 50 U.S. metro areas with the most job postings according to their job market favorability (ratio of job postings compared with job seeker interest), salary weighted for cost, work/life balance and job security/advancement.

Based on that methodology, the top five cities for job seekers, in order, are: Miami; Orlando, Fla.; Raleigh, N.C.; Austin, Texas; and Sacramento, Calif. Indeed also said the top 15 metros are all in the South and West regions of the country.
Hartford, Conn., was the highest-ranked New England city on the list, coming in 18th.
Providence’s job market favorability was 86 percent, meaning it scored better than 86 percent of comparable cities.
“The Sun Belt continues to be a region of high growth and opportunity as companies and workers alike have moved toward strong job markets,” Paul D’Arcy, senior vice president at Indeed, said in a statement. “We have seen a migration trend where people are moving away from cold places looking to live in warm climates, so it is no surprise that we are seeing companies providing more job opportunities in Sun Belt cities like Miami, Austin and San Diego.”
